About Kauai

Once you own Kauai real estate, get ready to go out and enjoy the island's beauty.
Majestic and mountainous, the 554-mile Garden Island touts the greatest number of beaches per mile of coastline of all the Hawaiian islands. All the beaches on Kaua`i are open to the public. Load up the car and head on out to Kauai's sun spots. Here are just a few to choose from:

North shore beaches:

• Tunnels (Makua) Beach - one of the most popular snorkeling beaches along the north shore.
• Lumaha`i Beach - Made famous as the filming locale where Mitzi Gaynor sang "I'm going to wash that man right out of my hair" in the movie South Pacific.
• Ke`e beach - Visit here early in the morning for the best snorkeling (in summer) and to avoid the crowds. You'll find the trailhead for the Kalalau Trail. Take a brief hike and see spectacular views
• Hanalei Bay - A long crescent of white sand, fabulous for strolling the beach while gazing at the beautiful backdrop of lush green hillsides. Very popular with surfers.

• Donkey Beach - Long stretch of white sand beach that is often less crowded than others.
• Kealia Beach -  Boogie boarders and surfers love this spot. Northern end of the beach is more protected.
  
• Lydgate State Park - South of the Wailua River. There is a picnic area, playgrounds, and wonderful boulder-enclosed swimming ponds. Great fish feeding spot in the mornings.
• Wailua Beach - Across from the Coco Palms (where Elvis filmed Blue Hawaii) where the Wailua River & ocean meet. Popular with surfers and boogie boarders.

South shore beaches:

• Poipu's Shipwreck Beach - Also called Keoniloa Beach. Hike near the cliffs and beach. Skilled surfers, body surfers and boogie boarders enjoy the ocean action near the eastern end.
• Poipu Beach Park - Popular with families since, the majority of the time, swimming is safe. Good snorkeling on the right side of the point.
• Brennecke Beach - Restored by volunteers after Hurricane Iniki. Lots of turtles and boogie boarders. No surfboards allowed.
• Maha`ulepu Beach - Great spot to explore. Made up of 3 beaches known as Gillin's Beach, Kawailoa Bay and Ha`ula Beach.

West shore beaches:

• Polihale Beach - Long stretches of white sand beach. Great for swimming. Sand is hot in summer, bring along a pair of flip flops. Watch the kayakers land as they finish their tours of the Na Pali Coast.
• Barking Sands Beach - Where the sand dunes supposedly "bark" when you walk on them. 
• Salt Pond County Beach Park - The only natural salt ponds in Hawaii still used to make salt.
